Some BrĂĽckner music on The Psychedelic Muse
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Sat Apr 27, 2019 6:27 pm
There is this (as far as I know) rather popular ambient (and psytrance etc.) channel on YouTube called "The Psychedelic Muse", and I'm quite happe that they decided to feature some more music in which I'm involved in recently, which is:

An animated clip of "10.000 Mermaids", the opening title of "Monsoon Offerings", the new album by Volker Lankow and myself (plus Suzannah Moon - on the album, that is, but not on this particular track...).

AND also my complete 2012 ambient album "Eleventh Sun" - I'm in fact especially happy that they introduced that one to their circle of listeners, because I was always fond of it, but it went under most people's radars ever since it was released…

There is also a longer (and potentially interesting to some) background story about "Eleventh Sun" - which I just wrote down again because a listener over at FB asked about it, so as the text is just at hand…

In late 2010 Vlad Sikach (aka SiJ), an Ukrainian dark ambient artist and label owner of GV Sound invited me to contribute a track to a compilation project entitled "11.11.11." - which would be released on November 11th 2011, with each track having a running time of exactly 11:11 minutes.

Always in favour of slightly weird concepts, I was happy to join in. During my work on this project, I actually recorded not one, but several new ambient tracks, most of them in two or three versions, and offered Vlad an album's worth of music to choose from. He opted for one of the mixes of "Agens" and so it was included in one of the two "volumes" of 11.11.11. - The Light Side. Still available here (almost for free):

Some months later, I had my first full-size label release on SynGate, with my 100th album, called "... (Read More)

BrĂĽckner - Improvisation with looper, synth and piano on YT
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Sat Apr 20, 2019 11:54 pm
Here's another live@home video thingy… Wink

Already a while ago, I bought this little stomper pedal, a BOSS RC-1 Loop Station (my first looper, actually) but so far couldn't find to do a lot with it. But when I recently had a day off, I sat down to toy around with it a bit, and this is the result…

For those who are interested in technical details, here's the (rather humble) setup:
My old KORG 05R/W midi modul (the left corner on top of the piano, you hardly see it in the video) feeds into the BOSS RC-1, and the output first runs through an ALESIS MICROVERB II and from there to the mixer.
The (old, sample based but still decent) TECHNICS piano goes directly to the mixer, but has an effect chain (two delays, a chorus and a reverb) added in Cubase, where I recorded the output.
Some additional sounds come from a second laptop (a low drone in the first place, and I actually forgot which VSTi I used for it...).

So, this is just an improvisation created on the spur of the moment and including some bum notes and other shortcomings, but all in all I liked the atmosphere of it...

Pillion – Enigmas

Pillion – Enigmas
CD/Digital Download, Groove Unlimited, 1980/2019
Here’s one of those pinnacle releases of the past that never saw a cd-release after it came out in 1980. On this 54-minute live-recording, Walter Rothe and Guy Drieghe –D give their best in spacy, classic Berlin School style. Those familiar with the original vinyl recording will be amazed what stunning job was done to restore the full audio and make it sound seamless to this level, as the original had some serious drop-outs along various other technical issues of quite a severe nature. The sound and intrinsic atmosphere of the 28-minute title track comes close and seems much inspired by Schulze’s “Timewind”. “Pompei” though proves a beautiful evolving longform soundscape composition with mysterious currents and twists leaning toward classic TD, shifting to elevating impact on the second half of the 24-minute piece.
So bravo for this re-release of “Enigmas” (coming with new cover) and its most thoughtful audio archeology where every original detail is preserved for others to know what it was like when it was created....
