Ryuichi Sakamoto article / interview
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Fri Feb 09, 2018 7:57 am
Ryuichi Sakamoto shared this on FB the other day, calling it an interview, the interview part seems rather small though. Interesting read anyway...

EM News Poster: Jakub - Date: Tue Feb 06, 2018 12:26 pm
Few years ago, together with a great vocalist from Poland - Tomek Struszczyk - we recorded a cover of "A Forest" by The Cure. Why we did this? It will remain a mistery forever Wink.
The recording is available on my youtube channel:

Michael Hoenig - Rare Tracks on Sandpiper Records
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Mon Feb 05, 2018 11:24 am

A friend on FB (actually Serge LeRoy, the French musician and producer, some here might be familiar with the name) shared two links to interesting historic recordings by Michael Hoenig via archive.com by a label called Sandpiper Records.

For all I can see, this doesn't appear to be a pirate thing, and the irems in question are really interesting, being:

1. some studio outtakes from the early 80s

https://archive.org/details/MichaelHoenig-UntitledStudioWorks1980

"Rare 1980 set of studio recordings that formed the basis for Hoenig's 'Except One' album"

2. A live version of "Departure from the Northern Wasteland" (the track)

https://archive.org/details/MichaelHoenigLiveRiasFm77

An exclusive for Sandpiper Records and a rare recording of a live performance of the title track to the astounding 1978 Warner Brothers album 'Departure from the Northern Wasteland' by electronic pioneer Michael Hoenig. The sound quality isn't of digital brilliance, but it provides us with an insight into the compositional complexities of Hoenig's work, particularly his intricate minimalist (Reich-like) sequencer phases; and makes us wonder why he was never regarded in the same light as his luminaries and colleagues, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, despite arguably displaying much more in terms of talent and imagination.

Funny thing, just a few days ago I thought I would love to hear a live version of that one day... Shocked

"Ambient at 40", Essay by Lawrence English
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Sun Feb 04, 2018 9:48 pm
"Ambient is never finished. It is an experiential process of becoming – for listeners, for creators and more broadly as a musical philosophy."

A friend shared this article on FB today, and I found it an interesting (...if perhaps rather cerebral) reading; which doesn't mean I agree to all of it, though...

Maybe a starting point for a nice discussion...? Wink

This Lawrence English gentleman apparently wrote it on occasion of the 40th anniversary of the release of Eno's "Music for Airports", btw...

syndae - episode 420
EM News Poster: treibklang - Date: Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:00 pm
Recently I started watching a TV series, rather a comedy I think, maybe with some embedded commerce criticism. It's usually not the kind of shows I tend to watch, but I expected something different alltogether when reading about Mr. Robot. Now, this series still cought me, because it is not the ordinary kind of comedy, some crazy hacker with big memory issues trying to free the world from an evil corporation. The computer stuff made me watch it in the first place. Well, I found the show quite odd, so I stayed onto it. And in the end I think this is what I am also often looking for in music: The out of the ordinary kind. Stuff that is off-beat. Music that surprises me and does not comply to my expectations. To me, the tracks on tonight's edition are such kind of music, and I hope you enjoy the experience of listening to them as much as I did. Have a fine 30 minutes run with Colten Tyler Williams (Radiance of Resistance), Forrest Fang (Scenes from a Ghost Train), Steppe-Scape (The Great Steppe Live), MacroNoise (Various Species), Uwe Gronau (When Every Word Was Singing), Walt Thisney (Galactic Voodoo).

Sound a la surprise at
