RIP Alan R Pearlman

RIP Alan R. Pearlman

The man who founded ARP has died.

From Dina Pearlman on Facebook 1/5/2019

"My father passed away today after a long illness. At 93, too weak to speak he still managed to play the piano this morning, later passing away peacefully in the afternoon. He was a great man and contributed much to the world of music you all know today. Hopefully I can find something more eloquent to say, but I am too sad for words

in memoriam John Kelly aka ‘sparrow’
Portal Info Poster: Vignoble @ Co. - Date: Sun Jan 06, 2019 3:55 pm
Three Kings Day, twelve days after Christmas we celebrate the visit of the three wise men to the infant Jesus.

While I am writing these lines I am looking at a picture of a smiling middle aged man, not a king but a friendly looking man with a dog, a man that loved fishing and had a passion for the ‘Music of the Future’. A man whom I never met.

Yesterday I had a brief chat with a fellow member and we exchanged the usual wishes. After our conversation he finalized his message informing me that the man on the photo passed away September last year.

John Kelly aka ‘sparrow’ 54 yr, suffered from cancer, battled but lost the fight.

John was a registered member since April 2007 just after the start of EMPortal. I remember the technical problems which initially prevented him to enter the site, I remember our conversations in order to get access and how driven he was to become part of the new community. In the 10 years that followed he posted thousands of messages during his countless visits and in a certain way became one of the assets to the forum.

Despite the fact that we never met it feels like I lost somebody, somebody with the same passion and the drive to share his thoughts in public.

Like Edgar Froese once said: “There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address”

Farewell John, it was nice to have met you…

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.”

NOSTALGIA - The Fall of the House of Usher
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Wed Jan 02, 2019 8:37 pm
To quote Mathias Grassow:

“The long awaited successor of the legendary "House on the Borderland" line up has finally become reality. It was a concern of all members to set this Edgar Allan Poe short story to music and the result is a worthy successor to HOB.”

To quote one Tobias from LITEROTICON:

“Edgar Allen Poe and especially "The House Of Usher" have inspired a lot of artists throughout the years, and this one is easily the best I have heard so far. Very lively field recordings, massive drones set the sonic scenery, held together by orchestral sounds. This soundtrack inspired me to finally read the story, and it is difficult to describe what both in combination did to me. This release is a highlight, absolutely up there (or better) with huge Hollywood or game productions.”

To quote myself: Wink

„House on the Borderland“ is one of my most favorite albums of all times, but „The Fall of the House of Usher“ is (nearly) on the same level…

It will be a free download for about four weeks, and later turned into a regular release (see also below)

All the tracks are spontaneous improvisations, actually "warm ups" and test runs of my equipment, which I recorded on various occasions during 2018, usually before "seriously" rehearsing for one of the P'Faun concerts and also after returning from concerts or band rehearsals, when I had set up my gear in my little studio again and wanted to check if everything was connected properly.

I also made a lot of use of a new synth I bought earlier this year, the Behringer Model D (a currently popular - and affordable! - Minimoog clone).

Most of the improvisations are unedited and just like I recorded them (some bum notes, slight distortions or other little flaws included), a few of them though were a bit trimmed down, remixed or slightly enhanced (especially the opener).

I hope You're going to enjoy them! Smile

P.S. ...all the track titels are actually names of stars.

* * * PLEASE (...really!) TYPE "0" (ZERO) as a price when downloading the album! * * *

I only kept the "name your price" option to make the download appear in people's BC collections. But it's indeed meant as a gift, completely free of charge! Thanks! Smile
