Echo Us Return from the Abyss With New Celtic-themed Album
New releases Poster: AbsoluteProbability - Date: Fri Oct 06, 2017 1:47 am
To Wake a Dream in Moving Water: Echo Us Return from the Abyss With New Celtic-themed Album.

Echo Us’ upcoming album takes from its founder’s past and spins it into a whole new direction.

In late 1996 Ethan Matthews recorded his first ever commercially available piece of music as a then 18 year-old guitarist working with electronics and ambient music. “Satre Dance” fell in right alongside all the new age and ambient music of the time. However Matthew’s mainstay in his early years, the progressive metal act Greyhaven is still known today as one of the pioneering, independent bands of the genre in the 1990s, having combined new age ambient music with progressive metal.

Satre Dance represented a completely different area of expression for Matthews- a more relaxing kind of creative muse that foreshadowed where his music would navigate to in later years with Echo Us. Satre Dance was originally released on an independent label compilation in the UK in October 1998. It is reprised on the new Echo Us album, recorded on hammered dulcimer as it was originally intended, and re-titled "Aeriel".

“Back then I was very into my electric guitar playing and my own short attention span prevented me from learning acoustic instruments in the way I do today. Although, at the time I still had the knack for a very simple melody – it’s kind of like Haydn in that way, it’s kid’s music in some ways and always felt very innocent”. (Matthews)

The rest of the music from “Wake a Dream in Moving Water” is all new, composed and recorded during the first few months of 2017. Although Celtic influenced and comprised of a number of re-workings of Irish folk tunes and Breton aires, the album is still in large part new and original Echo Us music that fits right in the Echo Us ‘canon’. “Wake” is a natural progression from “A Priori Memoriae”, which was re... Edgar Froese - Force Majeure Autobiography
EM News Poster: Jon - Date: Sun Oct 01, 2017 11:23 pm
So it seems like the book is finally out, after years of work. I will order it after I have posted this message.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

What I am most curious about is how Edgar writes about Franke in the book. Will he mention him by name at all?

Brückner BC re-releases for September
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Thu Sep 28, 2017 7:49 pm
The time is now at hand for the next batch of re-releases; this time it's three albums from 2003 which I always was fond of, and that form a sort of "mini series" - classic EM enthusiasts please be warned*: this is (mostly) NOT TD-like stuff, but rather experimental electronica (or: ambient), so Mouse On Mars or Aphex Twin (or also: Brian Eno) fans are more likely to appreciate it.

* but soon there's something else for TD fans, too Wink

Extended Liner Notes follow below, but here are the links first:

Ôrnithéologique (that's the ambient one!)

Irrghûn (that's the weirdest one Wink )

Liner Notes (in this case for all three of them):

The *mbp / sw line mini series* - general introduction:

I remember 2003 for being (arguably) the year of my creative peak as a sound artist (even if hardly anyone noticed at the time). I felt that my formative years lay finally behind me and at long last I had found my own voice. I was full of confidence, and I still consider six of the ten albums I recorded in that year as highlights among my own work (the remaining four being kind of OK, too).

At this time, it also would not come to my mind to produce any kind of „retro electronica“. I loved and adored the masters from the 70s for sure, but I believed still that it was my duty to be a „contemporary artist“ (both words being relevant to me, contemporary AND artist).

Contemporary meant that my major role models rather were acts like Mouse On Mars, Aphex Twin or Nils Petter Molvaer (for example) back then, and not so much Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream or J.M. Jarre.

Being an artist meant to me *not* to be „commer... (Read More)

RIP Mark Ward
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Mon Sep 25, 2017 12:14 pm
This morning I was shocked to find the terrible news that British ambient / electronica artist Mark Ward has passed away recently. Crying or Very sad

He was a gifted electronic musician and also a long-time online friend.

Just listening to his latest release, which is very beautiful...

Inkeys
EM News Poster: GrahamH - Date: Mon Sep 25, 2017 11:51 am
Made an interesting find in my loft yesterday in a dusty box of cassettes long forgotten..... INKEYS No6 on cassette from 1983... Shocked

I've a vague memory of buying this very cheaply (50 pence if I recall) from a second music store maybe some 16 years ago....
...listening to it perhaps once (I'm not even certain if I did listen to it), and then it found it's way into the loft to be long forgotten....

Looking at the track listing is interesting....

Side A
Richard Pinhas - Iceland
Bernard Xolotl - Procession
Steve Jolliffe - Journeys Out of The Body
Didier Bocquet - Pictures of Life
Tim Story - In Another Country
Peter Frohmader - Necropolis II
Eddy Sayer - Music for People

Side B
Tangerine Dream - Hyperborea
Michel Huygen - Capturing Holograms
M.A.L - Two Faces
Danner & Clement - A Gradual Awakening
Crystal - Rainbow Voyager
Fondation - La Vaisseau Blanc
Mainframe - Tenants of the Lattice Work

Given this thing's now 34 years old I'm not sure if it even plays anymore?

Does anyone collect these or know anything about them?

There appears to be very little on the internet about them...

All I can remember it is that it was one of a series,
a sort of promotion/review compilation of forthcoming new albums of the day.... IMHO interesting none the less.... Wink

Luckily I've still got the means (a tape deck) to play it on, so it might be worth checking out.... that's assuming it still plays ? Laughing
