Best albums of 2017
EM News Poster: Naus - Date: Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:40 pm
Music is emotion. The theme for 2017 for me is pure feeling, to be completely blown away by an album, being impressed by the music, goose bumps, tears (not only of joy) and respect for what all these musicians did this year. There were very good other albums, but they did not hit me as hard as these ten did:

1 Hologram Earth - Black Cell Program
2 Dodecahedron - Kwintessens
3 [‘ramp] - Synchronize Or Die
4 Myrkur- Mareridt
5 Hallatar - No Songs Upon The Bridge
6 Roger Waters - Is This The Life We Really Want
7 Free System Projekt - Five Suns
8 Steven Wilson - To The Bone
9 Igorrr - Savage Sinusoid
10 ARC- Fleet

Andy Pickford Interview plus Electronic Music
EM News Poster: TangerineMan - Date: Wed Nov 22, 2017 1:36 pm
Hi, Fancy finding out what Andy Pickford is up to, where he has been and what he has plans for? An electronic music artist for some 25 years has stories to tell and a nice way of articulating himself. We enjoyed a good lengthy chat last weekend and now that the interview has been recorded and edited it is ready to be aired this coming Friday night, as an exclusive, on the 1Ear2Hear Radio show. This is the 5th interview in the series and will go to Mixcloud.com soon after the show to be listened again. Subsequently, interviews that you might have missed this year have been with Tangerine Dream, Ulrich & Thorsten, David Wright, Code Indigo and now Andy Pickford joins the set. IX will be the Christmas Interview & Ian Boddy, plus others in 2018. I'm certainly promoting the musicians we love and trying hard to get this genre of music listened to across the UK. We need new blood and I feel that the music needs to be heard, supported and introduced to new generations. Maybe listeners here can help spread the word? Thanks for reading this, hope you can join me Friday night, but if not, please try and catch up. The show has been steadily growing its audience and folk are enjoying the music I play. It's certainly a positive show. Take care, chat again soon. 1i2c.com

Museleon - First World War Project taster
EM News Poster: Bert - Date: Tue Nov 21, 2017 5:39 pm
Museleon is a side-project by Odette Johnson, one half of Soundician; this is what she writes about the WWI project she's been working on:

I have been creating electronic music for some time and also have been working on a sound / image / film project about the First World War, since starting out all those years ago.
It is something that I return to from time to time, but I was spurred on to try and complete it by the centenary and set myself a couple of goals.
- To create a memorial piece for every year of the war
- To actually get the whole project, which is quite large, finished by November 2018.

I have created pieces about the start of the war(1914), Piccardy(1915), the first use of tanks (1916) and here for 1917, the Battle of Passchendaele. It's a sort of electronic soundscape requiem that covers all aspects and often not with a happy ending.
I decided this year to give a taster of what it's like since the Battle of Passchendaele was truly terrible, an understatement from me.
Listen here:

1917 - Army of Death
Passchendaele: 31 July - 6 November 1917
It was infamous not only for the scale of casualties, but also for the mud. For the sake of a few kilometres, the British lost 310,000 men and the Germans 260,000.
For this piece there are two major themes.
- The poem, The Army of Death by Charles Hamilton Sorley (1895 - 1915)killed by sniper at the age of 21 at the Battle of Loos.
- The use of horses on the front.
Conditions were severe for horses at the front; they were killed by artillery fire, suffered from skin disorders, and were injured by poison gas. Hundreds of thousands of horses died, and many more were treated at veterinary hospitals and sent back to the front. Procuring fodder was a major issue, and Germany lost many horses to starvation.
By 1917, Britain had over a million horses and mules in service, but harsh conditions, especially during winter, resulted in heavy los... (Read More)

Guido Meyer Lightyears The Movie
EM News Poster: Guido Meyer - Date: Sat Nov 18, 2017 1:32 am
When I finished the recordings for "Lightyears" (The Album) in 2005, I occasionally lay on the couch and often listened to the music I had just created. I have always had this film of travel through the universe and just this whole space / Future Fiction in my mind's eye.

And that's exactly what Lightyears was perfect for!

As a concept album about the end of the world and our solar system, with titles that glide seamlessly into each other. , it takes the concentrated listener on a musical journey into faraway galaxies which still calls in the 12th year after their appearance to be started.

But now in sound AND picture!

I had already documented my musical existence in video clips before (YouTube). To implement my ideas for Lightyears The Movie my previous video software was not enough. So first a little money for a reasonable software had to to be invested.

"First the music, ...

I already had that (since 12 years). For Lightyears The Movie, I just slightly reworked the sound. Especially everything was mixed a lot louder (so it fits for mobile phones or notebooks now as well as for your home 5.1 sound system). It was adapted to the MP3 format so to speak sound technically.

. , then the movie

First of all, for those of you who think after the first few minutes, such a Guido Meyer 2002 clip show again (if you know one or the other older clips on YouTube), you're wrong. The movie increases from title to title.

At some point I began to search the Internet for freely available videos and animations. On the subject of Lightyears of course related primarily material about ... "Space"! In the beginning I was worried because I thought I never get enough material in my life, but in the end I had so much , that sometimes I could hardly decide which video would fit better now!

Alone the search took hours and days. Now the amount of useful clips and animations just had to be cut and put together so ... (Read More)
