syndae - episode 446
EM News Poster: treibklang - Date: Fri Aug 17, 2018 7:59 pm
I am no historian in musical instruments, but I would assume that percussive instruments are some of the oldest on earth. It seems so natural to me to simply start with a rhythm by tapping fingers. Before music, such beats could surely be useful for longer distance communication purposes. Drums surely came in with rites and were always good for some dancing. I usually prefeer a bit more complex, unusal and variation rich drum and percussion sequences. But on some occasions, straight forward beats do a good job of clearing my head. Well, tonight's edition will go for the latter so you may get up and move your body. Have drum fun with tracks by Liveloula & Atrus (Liveloula & Friends), Johanna von Pfeife (Devotional Dreaming), MegaHast3r (Rendering Again), Matti T (Colors), In Vitro (Transdimensional Woods), and Stan Dart (The Sound of Syndae).

In the beat of the night on

Yours, Stefan

M. Brueckner - One Step Behind (Rerelease on BC)
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Thu Aug 16, 2018 11:27 pm
For quite some time now I refrained from announcing the re-releases of albums from before 2011, which I still do on a monthly basis (seven more times, actually...).

However, sometimes albums stick out (from my perspective, at least), and here's one which is of some personal importance to me:

This is probably the most personal album that I have recorded to date, dealing with my complex relationship to my father, in the light of the diagnosis of a fatal disease which he received during the time I was working on this music (he eventually passed away four years later).

It's not a depressing or sad album though (only maybe in a few spots) - actually, it could be described as contemporary electronica, mixing elements of IDM, chillout, ambient, industrial, electro pop and more...

More information can be found in the "liner notes" on BC.

Thanks for Your attention! Smile

Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell - Dystopia (DiN56)
EM News Poster: Parallel Worlds - Date: Sun Aug 05, 2018 7:22 pm
Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell Dystopia DiN56

Release date 21st September 2018

Limited to 500 copies. Digipak CD format.
Bar code 5028423180562

The names of both Parallel Worlds and Dave Bessell should be very familiar by now to followers of the DiN ambient electronica label. Bakis Sirros (aka Parallel Worlds) has two solo albums, Obsessive Surrealism (DiN26), Shade (DiN32) as well as collaborations with DiN label boss Ian Boddy on Exit Strategy (DiN37) and most recently World Adapter (DiN48) with Self Oscillate (Ingo Zobel). Bessell on the other hand has a single solo album Black Horses Of The Sun (DiN47) as well as his contributions to the two synth supergroup Node releases (Node 2 (DiN44) & Node Live (DiN55)). Of course the duo have already collaborated before on their 2012 album, “Morphogenic” (DiN41) and “Dystopia” sees these two musicians continue their sonic dialogue.
Track titles such as “Cipher”, “Mutagen” and “Devoid” as well as the album title leaves one in no doubt that you are entering a dark and foreboding sound world. Indeed Bessell quotes the infamous novel “Neuromancer” by William Gibson as a major influence. Bakis Sirros as ever weaves his intricate modular rhythms that seem to squirm and writhe underneath vast slabs of analogue chords that rise and fall like cities. Indeed the album is very dynamic with complex, almost classical arrangements that constantly shift under ones feet. Amongst this Bessell introduces some fleeting guitar work as well as his adventurous analogue physical modelling sound design. Seeming to inhabit a netherworld between dark electronica and progressive synth these two musicians have once again created an album that just doesn’t sound like anyone else out there. Join them for a unique sonic adventure.

On occasion of the master's birthday, here's yet another Klaus Schulze Tribute Compilation, featuring many aspiring copycats, and HEY! - we even got Chuck van Zyl! Mr. Green

The compilation contains about 10 hours of music, is basically free ( = name your price), was curated by Jack Hertz and released on his label Aural Films.

P.S. ...my personal favorite is Scott Lawlor's contribution - just magical!

Jean-Luc Hervé Berthelot
EM News Poster: GrahamH - Date: Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:26 pm
Just wondering if anyone has heard of Jean-Luc Hervé Berthelot?

I came across one of his projects.... JIHEL on Bandcamp,
and was surprised that his music goes right back to the mid/late 70's... Shocked

Never heard of him before,
but having listened to a few of his albums I was suitably impressed....

On a first cursory listen,
I'd say he's perhaps somewhere between what Schnitzler and Schulze...
