Cosmic Hoffmann -- gone but not forgotten
EM News Poster: dronescape - Date: Sat Oct 13, 2018 7:50 pm
Around this time last year -- it was 14th October --, I was on my way home from Hanover where I had taken my Prophet to be fixed. While driving home, all of a sudden I was feeling an incessant urge to dig out an old and unreleased track Klaus and I had recorded back in 1996 when warming up for the "Traces" recordings. At home, I found the DAT and transferred it to my hard-drive, thinking "this is actually quite nice, maybe I should release it".

Later that evening -- it was about bedtime -- I was browsing EM Portal, just to discover Bernhard's message about Klaus' passing -- I was deeply shocked (and still am) and could hardly find any sleep that night. For some reason, his family did not want his death to be announced, and the book of condolences over at Schallwelle disappeared without a trace, just like the MoM and Cosmic Hoffmann websites. In some way, it resembled the way Klaus himself would refer to Cheech and Chong's "Up in Smoke"...

In the course of the past year, I kept coming across things Klaus had left behind in the 28 years we had known each other -- postcards, letters, recordings, the infamous "Herbert Schmidt Show" tapes, promotional material from his own musical past and of his bands Impulse and Archaeopteryx, pictures taken when we were walking the forests near his home, things he had brought from his journeys to India, and of course -- the Mellotron.

Even though we parted ways at some point, musically, I miss him dearly.

syndae - episode 451
EM News Poster: treibklang - Date: Fri Oct 12, 2018 10:59 pm
So after the Electronic Circus, with all their stunning acts live on stage, I finally am back. Well, yes, I tuned out for some days vacating in beautiful Italy for a change. Mille grazie, Italia. It was great to have a short break, after finishing the CD and doing the Circus. Next up is E-Live in Oirschot, which already is next week on October 20th. Still time to book your trip and get tickets for the event. And therefore I have some news, too. First, P'Faun will bring their new album, live to stage and physical at Groove. And as a teaser a track on this edition of syndae. Several new releases have been announced to appear on the day of E-Live. One of them is the new album by Syndromeda, another by E-Tiefengrund, and there will be more. So while waiting for the big festival coming up, enjoy listening to P'Faun (Golden Peacock), Syndromeda (Eternal Destination), amd Picnicboy (Echoes).

Here be robots at

Yours, Stefan

P'Faun "The Golden Peacock" soon on Groove Unlimit
EM News Poster: BruecknerAmbient - Date: Wed Oct 10, 2018 7:09 pm
I'm happy to announce that P'Faun's first full album

will be available soon (most likely "in sync" with the E-Live festival in two weeks) as (real!) CD on Ron Boot's label Groove Unlimited.

The album has been in the works (off and on) for more than five years and includes studio versions of most of the songs played in two concerts in 2013 by "Betzler & Brückner" (the earlier version of the band) - plus some more...

The style is (obviously) close to P'Faun's debut EP "Sp'Roque" (and earlier Betzler & Brückner albums) - which means an electronic variety of space rock (or a rocking variety of electronic space... Wink ).

A teaser with some excerpts will be shared soon via YouTube and / or Soundcloud (we're working on that...).

Of course, You can also come and see the band at E-Live, where we're going to play quite a few tracks from the album...

P'Faun is:

Tommy Betzler: electronic & acoustic drums, percussion & gongs

Sammy David: electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitar

Michael Brückner: synthesizer, keyboards, electronics, processed voice

...together with five wonderful musical guests - mentioned in the track list below:

1. So Ham (A Suite) (14;49 min)
...featuring Cilia di Ponte (voice) and Doris Hach (cello)

2. Flying Fish (7:00 min)

3. King Gong (9:15)
...featuring Gerd Weyhing (guitar, looped guitar, bass)

4. House In The Storm - Part 2 (by P'Cock) (10:5Cool

5. Number Five (Is Still Alive) (7:18 min)
...featuring Harald Nies (guitar)

6. P'Quences (14:38 min)
...featuring Rene van der Wouden (synths, keyboards)

7. Blue Pearls - Part 1 (7:23 min)
8. Blue Pearls - Part 2 (7:04 min)

The album was mixed and produced by Michael Brückner & Sammy David and mastered by Hans-Dieter Schmidt.

I'd also like to mention that the wonderful cover painting is by the Brazilian painter and illustrator Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos, who's other... (Read More)

Stephanie Sante - Clear Light
New releases Poster: Marie - Date: Tue Oct 09, 2018 11:28 pm

Stephanie Sante is a synthesizer master, and although she occasionally uses her synth to re-create a regular acoustic instrument, she mostly just refreshingly lets her synthesizer sound like a synthesizer as you will hear if you take a listen to her new CLEAR LIGHT album. This is amazing new age and ambient electronica -- simple one moment and complex the next, bouncy and rhythmic one moment (Deep Impression,” “Jade Resonance” and “Fractured Echoes”) and dreamily floating the next (“Melt Like Snow” and “The Color of Coral”), moving from vibrant to spacey and back again. These are underwater dreamscapes and mesmerizing ambient oceanic journeys that will have you aching to scuba-dive on your next vacation. You owe it to yourself to deeply explore this fascinating new release.
