(Theatrical, slightly sequenced, somber and melodious EM)
When we speak about timeless classic in EM, we have to slide this album at the top of the list. I was lucky to put my hand on it when it was released back in 1985. EM knew then a major bend. Its craftsmen tried to influence the kind towards a more accessible approach, abandoning the long pieces of music for more melodious structures with the use of the digital synths and\or a wide range of samplings. This period of transition left us all the same in inheritance some very good albums. “Let The Night Last Forever” from Walter Christian Rothe is one of them. Some people will say, and I am one of them, that this 2nd album of the Belgian musician is the precursor of this dark and poetic EM where reign a sordid atmosphere of horror. There were well some albums of Mark Shreeve, but none had this very theatrical touch, and nevertheless very melodic, but “Let The Night Last Forever”. This album of which the time has never succeed to buried in the oblivion (I transferred the album onto a mini--disc and then the mini--disc on CD-r) sees finally the day, thanks to the Groove NL label, in a beautiful reedition which includes 2 titles in bonus and a lot of infos.
Angels' horns announcing the end of time knock out our senses at the opening of "Intro + Dawnfall". On a fascinating aria of funeral procession, the solemn walking of “Let The Night Last Forever” overture hammers as much our curiosity as our interrogation. What kind of music is it? Lugubrious and nevertheless melodic, this introduction hears out these horns get out of breath while percussions, sequences and a pulsating line of bass establish a sl . . .

syndae - episode 463

EM News Something I really did not miss during vacation is the ride to and from work. It's nothing spectacular, really, but I am always amazed how people seem so in a hurry. Changing lanes like chords in a rock song, speeding and taking over to gain another four metres to the "combatant" drivers. Only to later meet up at the next traffic light. With all this hectic world outside, time and again it is nice to dive into something peaceful. Like the ambient tracks which are on tonight's playlist by Seifert & Steinbßchel (Abandoned Places), NoizeFilter (Absolute Zero), Erik Wøllo (Infinite Moments), DesuExSounds (Soundsphere 9 / Compilation), Adeptus Mechanicus (In an Open Field), and Kryshe (Hauch).

Take a deep breath with

Yours, Stefan

Robert Rich - Tactile Ground (2019)
Posted Fri Jan 18, 2019 6:11 pm by BruecknerAmbient
New releases Robert Rich released a brand new album the other day, in fact a two CD set, entitled "Tactile Ground".

I think it's marvellous, then again as a fanboy, I might be biased... Wink

These are the "liner notes" on BC - or maybe a liner poem, rather:

Can we find a tactile ground,
an animal surface upon which to calibrate our humanity?

Skin telegraphs sensation from air,
filtered from distant worlds.
Language constricts our sense of self
to an illusion of separation.
The verb of living, flux and transmutation,
expands outward from the middle,
concentric ripples on a pond.
We drop through the surface,
pebbles tossed from the shore.

A listener called Paul Seaman also wrote a short review, to which I actually tend to agree...

This album feels like the culmination of themes Rich has been exploring over the past decade, from the Eno-like sparseness of Nest to the latest scientific understandings about the universe; from his melancholy trilogy on humans' impact on nature to his recent contemplative, improvisational duets with Markus Reuter. In these gently hopeful tracks, there is both specificity and acceptance.

A live concert by J-MR in the youtube
Posted Mon Jan 14, 2019 1:58 pm by cyberiad2001
EM News Hi!

You should check this out. JuhaMatti Rautiainen Soundscapes did a small gig in his workplace a few days ago. The camera is static, but at least you get a good view of what he is doing. The only instrument is a bass guitar and loads of fx (also a couple of field recordings, looped). It's absolutely fantastic set of high quality ambient... Most of the material is from his latest album. A fantastic musician and really a true live concert with the help of technology. The sound is excellent...

Heavy Sunrise - Six New EPs - Ambient Guitar
Posted Sat Jan 12, 2019 4:52 pm by heavysunrise
New releases Heavy Sunrise have released six new ambient guitar-based EPs.

You can check them out here: https://heavysunrise.com

Stay noisy.

Adam - Heavy Sunrise

Adam Cooper is an American textural guitarist, songwriter, record producer, engineer, and experimental noise-maker living in the Arizona desert.

Heavy Sunrise centers around the electric guitar, a vintage Digitech PDS8000 Delay/Looper pedal, a handful of eclectic stompboxes, extreme volume, and Ableton Live to generate hazy, hypnotic textures and warped and wobbly tones.

Cooper's songwriting and incendiary guitar work in famed 90s shoegazing outfit, Alison's Halo, laid the foundation for much of the effects-laden music on these latest recordings. The recording, production, and mixing techniques he employed working on Alison's Halo debut "Eyedazzler," Astrobrite's ground-breaking "Crush" LP, and - more recently - with Latvia's dreampop legends, Tribes Of The City, helped to further shape and sculpt Heavy Sunrise's spacey soundtrack-esque symphonies.

Heavy Sunrise's cinematic, otherworldly compositions have been described by SomewhereCold (USA) as being able to "transport the listener to another vast universe, with all its colorful nebulae and alien environments."

As a child growing up during the fading years of the space race, Cooper's earliest memories are those of grainy black and white photos and blown-out color footage of astronauts, cosmonauts, NASA's mission control screens, experimental aircraft, rockets, bleeping satellites, and epic missions to the moon. These indelible images, along with the excitement of new technology, the wild spirit of exploration, and the vast - and lonely - expanse of space, are all equally embedded and thoughtfully balanced within his music.

From the sensation of drifting weightlessly, to being caught in the roaring blast of a Cape Canaveral rocket launch, Heavy Sunrise leaves l . . .
