Sam Vitoulis & Sergio Koval : Leonard.

An ode to the Vangelis of Spiral and of China. A pure masterpiece that was released in 2004 and, in my opinion, a must-have for those who love the two above-mentioned albums.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

In all its relative simplicity such a dramatic composition. Truly unique.

Kebu - Perplexagon

A decent album by a talented musician ruined by extremely bad production.

I have to confess that this remark quite, erm… perplexed me! Wink

Not that I'm such a big fan of Kebu's music, but for sure respect him for his musical skills (and even like some of his music).

But "extremely bad production"...?!? Shocked

Didn't notice anything like that when - on occasion of it's release - I had a listen to the album, and returned to it now just to check.
But apparently I either belong to he category of "cloth-eared nincompoops" (...as Mike Oldfield might say) and have no idea of good (or bad) production (which is a slightly unsettling idea… Rolling Eyes ) or the sound is OK.

Somewhat irritated, I even did a little research, looking for reviews of the album, but in the handful I could find, no one addressed sound quality as an issue…

So - just being curious - what about the production is it that You dislike?

Recent to current listening:

Camel, Mirage

Klaus Schulze, Mirage

Klaus Schulze, Dune

Bernard Szajner, Visions of Dune

Robert Rich, Drones

Leonardo Soundweaver, Drones

Well, to be honest I didn't notice it myself on previous listens either. But this time I felt like it's a prime example of loudness war gone too far. In quite a few places the music is very compressed.
I'm not a big audiophile myself, but when listening to this album the way it sounded took away a lot of the fun. And it was quite fatiguing.

I see. Well, I guess in a way we had a similar impression then - I actually stopped listening after four or five tracks because I found it a bit strenuous, but I rather credited the effect to the (lively) music as such, and partly also to my own tiredness…
