More along the lines of Javi's 'In This Moment, In This Place' album.

I checked this one out, but this sounds experimental and abstract to my ears...so quite different from Javi's solo stuff
just my 2 cents.

I've bought it based on the fact that it's supposed to be "along the line of Javi's 'In This Moment, In This Place' album" and the samples on the MZ site.

I can't say I was all disappointed, but I'm not overly enthusiastic either. If you define "along the lines" as "it contains sequences too", than it's correct. However, it also contains big chunks of more experimental/abstract passages. But most important, it lacks the flow that makes 'In This Moment...' such a great pleasure to listen to.

Won't make it into my top 10 for sure.

I actually said "more along the lines" and was comparing with his last album 'Behind the Shadows' which was a radical departure.

Perhaps it's lost in translation but hopefully with the ability to listen to over 4 mins of the album before purchasing people can make up their own minds.

Exactly what I did before I decided to buy. However, these 4 minutes are the snappy sequencer bits and not the abstract parts.
The sequences are very nice by the way. And I'm not against more abstract music either. It's just that my expectations (and apparently those of Bert too) were different.

The last sample isn't.

I presumed Bert based his abstract / experimental comments on the samples?

I've also added Dave Law's review of the album.

Graham,

It almost sounds like Bert and I are not entitled to our views...

And yes, Dave thinks it's an "awesome album". Which is good to hear. But as objective as asking Javi's own opinion of course.

Final comments: "Unforgiven Machine" is a nice album in it's own right. Not as good as Javi's "In This Moment...", but much better than some other stuff I've listened to lately. All in my humble opinion of course. And your mileage may vary.

I think Dave really is sincere in his reviews. He has not always been so benevolent with my music. By other side, I'm my biggest critic and harder.
