First there was Harmonic Decadence which morphed into Harmonic Ascendant.

The cover artwork remained the same but the music was quite different, only one track was released on the Inkey$ #2 (1983) cassette with poor audio quality.

Hi Dan,

nice to see you mention this piece, which holds a special place in my collection for many years now. The audio quality indeed isn't great, but the overall atmosphere and music compensate that enough.
A "vintage" gem.

Robert told me that the original title seemed too negative to the record company, and the music too adventureous -- that's why it all had to be revised.

Hi Bert,
I like it a lot too as I do Syntopia from the KLEM cassette which also remains unreleased in better quality.

A friend has been chasing the decadence since '83, RS replied saying he has released all his music on the DMO series and has no more...

Stephen,
Interesting reply from RS but he was signed on IC which was independent at the time with WEA Musik as main distributor.

I doubt KS would have objected to the title which does not bother me but I wonder why did the music change...

Most interesting. I really love "Harmonic Ascendant" and would be very curious to hear a more adventurous, darker version of it (or any other music Robert produced at that time...). I had never heard about this before...

Actually, I can't really imagine that any music was "too adventurous" for IC to release at that time - then again, who knows...

But given that the material that got released in the end is beautiful indeed (especially with Wolfgang Tiepold's contribution) it was probably not a bad idea to prefere that...

...well, the blessings of the Internet sometimes help those of us who were born too late to purchase the original cassettes back in the 80ies (...well, in my case I actualy could have bought it as a teen - if I only had know about it).

Very nice. But more adventurous than the actual album...? Not sure.

I also found it nice. And neither darker nor too adventorous.

Oops... where they gone?

Actually tapes are much more stable than most would think.

Burned cdrs as well -though nobody knows yet how long they will last. It was thought they would evaporate into the ether after 6 years, but now some are going strong 18 years on.

Well. Some of my 5-year old CDR's don't play anymore. While all of the tapes do.

I believe this thread wasn't started to discuss the longevity of certain media vs. the longevity of certain other media.
