Greetings, fans of EM...

I've been trying to find online information about the car accident suffered by Edgar Froese, which I believe occurred around a year before he died. (This is research for a fictional story.)

I can't find anything online, so I wondered if any of the fine folk at this forum might know any of the details.

Thanks!
Steve

I thought he slipped on a path frozen over while walking the dog. He literally fell flat on his face and broke his jaw bone.

At least that's what I know from listening to various (rather spooky) interviews he gave before his passing.

Stephen

I read somewhere it was a jogging accident, not a car accident

Shocked he looked so frail for quite some time even before his accident, so i think this is rather unlikely. Or at least he should not have taken up jogging, especially at wintertime...

Thank you for the info so far!
Any other confirmed/reliable material would be greatly appreciated.
I am writing a story for an anthology about great musicians we've lost recently, and I chose the incomparable Edgar.
So I need to get this right...

Please help if you can!

I agree with Stephen on this one.

There's mention of this on Voices in the Net...

I do remember at that time they were due to play on a cruise ship,
and had to pull out of the gig at the last minute because of it.

http://www.voices-in-the-net.de/cruise_to_destiny.htm

You might also want to try searching the TD forum discussion threads around that time (early 2013)...

I met him briefly in 2008 when they played in Edinburgh,
and although a bit overweight, he looked healthy enough at that point.

Sadly after the accident however,
I don't think he was ever really the same again,
he just looked very frail...

Good luck with your research Very Happy

He didn't have a car accident. He fell when he walked the dog.

The final interview Olaf Zimmermann conducted with Edgar for the Electronic Beats broadcast was creepy... it was like someone speaking from the realm of the dead. Really creepy.

Hi Stephen! Now probably You will hate me, but Edgar’s health issues didn’t began with this accident. He fell on ice with his dog (He didn’t even have a drivers licence) but He was very, very ill long before that. I think that first He appeared very, very ill-Looking on the bonus filmes of the Rocking Out The Bats DVD (never ever re-released - i missed that one too unfortunately). The official statement then from eastgate was that He had problems with his back / spine, but the truth was much more worse. I heard the info from a person near to the TD team on the last couple of years (not Andy King), but it definitely wasn’t that reason which is stated officially on the eastgate page. As an MD i knew it of course, but that person confirmed it too. Unfortunately i can’t say more, because i sweared to that person Sad

I am afraid I have to agree with Electrobs... I remember that I was quite shocked by his appearance when the BBC Krautrock documentary came out. And it was a couple of years before the accident. It seemed half of the man was missing compared to him a year or two before. Also the speech was quite hard to understand at that time already... and i do not mean just the content.

Can I say a big thank you to everyone for this info!

Very helpful indeed, especially electrobs, Jon and Graham.

My story will weave in '70s albums titles, the surreal/Dali influences and the cathedral concerts. The anthology is being published by the admired and lauded PS Publishing and is being edited by Ian Whates.

I thought the same when I saw the album which showed Edgar with his Stetson on, guitar in hand -- I thought he looked terrifyingly ill.

The other Stephen...

In tribute to Edgar's surreal methods, part of my story has been created by an online automatic writing process.
