Hi!

This is Sam Rosenthal from Black Tape For A Blue Girl; this is the Kickstarter for "The Gesture of History", my instrumental collaboration with Nick Shadow (viola) and Steve Roach (spacial enhancement & synths). I've launched this campaign to raise $8000 to create a signed collectible CD & LP edition of The Gesture of History. I'm excited to create these with the help of people who want to see this campaign succeed — people like you!

Backing the campaign is sort of like preOrdering, and a lot like being a patron of the arts. A CD pledge is $20, LP pledge $25.

"The Gesture of History" draws upon introspective passages where the organic texture and emotions of the viola play out over an atmosphere of engulfing mournful beauty. Delicate strings float upon shimmering, forever changing expressionistic backgrounds of processed viola, synth, and harmonium – profoundly sensitive and deeply moving. The modernist ambient compositions balance on the precipice, looking back in moments of reflection and rumination, while delicately holding the future in our hands.

Let me take a moment to explain crowdfunding. Your pledges are integral to the CD and LP's existence, your donations (via one of the premium tiers) are the lifeblood that create this album. Every one of your contributions is important — whether you give $5 or $500!

By pledging, you become a patron of our art. I talk a lot about the cool people who support my music and I'll tell you why: you are the reason I'm able to release my music. CD & download sales decline each year; even with half a million streams in 2018 on Black Tape For A Blue Girl & my solo electronic music, it's not enough to live on. It barely covers a month’s mortgage.

Your direct contribution through this page allows me to manufacture and release Gesture for you. I’m constantly amazed by how caring and supportive you are. I'm moved by your enthusiasm for the music I've created over the past 36 years.

Kickstarter is all or nothing, we need to pass the $8000 goal to succeed. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Very interesting project.

I actually like to support it, yet I have one technical issue - I don't own a credit card (never needed it so far), and Kickstarter doesn't accept any other payment methods (like Paypal, which would be great). It's the same with (some) other crowd funding services, as far as I know. Wonder why they handle it that way, hm...

Rolling Eyes

Anyway, maybe I can find some other way to pass over some bucks to the boys… Wink

8,000 US$? Whew...

That must be one hell of a highly collectable album then.

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed for all contributors and artists.

Stephen
