Some of these have interesting music: The Girl Next Door and Shoot Em Up by Paul Haslinger, Michael Clayton by James Newton Howard, American Gangster by Marc Streitenfeld and Rescue Dawn by Klaus Badelt. Comments?

The last DVD rental I purchased was "Astronaut Farmer" but I never did get to see it. The damn drawer wouldn't open..... Mad Hope Santa will 'make my day' with a new HDDVD player. Very Happy

Btw, is this movie worth getting again?

The Man Who Cried

A nice movie with Depp in what seems like a secondary role. Very odd in places, with that European flavor. Not a hit, but OK.

I say the music from Rescue Dawm was tops because it matched the atmosphere of the film. Werner Herzog (the director) usually chooses fitting music.
I can't remember the music much from Shoot Em Up. Not that great of a movie with too many cheesy and rude/crude one-liners. The action was fast so I guess I missed the music.
The Girl next door was a good film with some distrubing content. I didn't really pay much interest to the music. I guess that's the point of a good score?

I do remember liking the atmospheres created by the music in Michael Clayton. Very fitting and well done. Terrific movie that will come home with some oscars.

American Gangster was a fantastic film. I could really relate to the time and place it was set in and the subject matter. Oscars for this one too.
But I honestly can't remember much about the music in the film. I thought they played a lot of period music?

Well, I am very much into film music so I don't agree that the best film music is the one you don't hear. Cool

Paul Haslinger ex-Tangerine Dream wrote some catchy stuff for The Girl Next Door including a rip-off of TD's Risky Business music.

American Gangster may have included much period music, but I have heard lots of good stuff about Marc Streitenfeld's score too. The only other film score he has done is Ridley Scott's A Good Year, so he has really got a sudden breakthrough. He has been an assistent for Hans Zimmer for years though.

"The Phantom Carriage" Scandinavian silent, v v gloomy but great.

"Enchanted" at the kid's matinee. Better than we expected in that there were a few actual funny bits in it.

3 that I've seen over the last 3 days:

Day Zero - interesting flick

Bringing Out The Dead - older, from 1999 starring Nick Cage. Pretty decent. Just saw it for the first time.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - Intense and very good.
