Just found out that my beyerdynamics are defect. Got some crackling on dark sounds. First thought it's that (cheap) Behringer Eurorack, but it's not. Well, the latter adds quite some noise, but that's a different topic.
Any recommendations regarding headphones you are using for composing?

Cheers, Stefan

MB Quart Quartphone 95X or the later models (MB Quart 400, I think).
Incredibly open-ended and well-balanced, focussed, pleasant on the ear, even after extended listening sessions, wonderful!

Sennheiser and the AKG are the most mentioned headphones in boards I found. Just, as all those headphones are different, it's not always clear if they are a proper choice for the task, i.e., listening to various kinds of music or using them in a production environment.
So I assume, the ones you named are for studio use, which I am looking for Smile
Thanks, so far.

Well I do all my mixing on my Sennheiser HD650. Most of the time I make music at night when everyone is a sleep so I can't use monitors for mixing. I love the details you can hear on them. They are like an audio microscope. Even the low end is very nice. And I would suggest open headphones any way since you can work way longer on them than on closed ones. (all in my humble opinion off course).

Oh I forgot to mention that I also have a pair of AKG 271. I use them in the living room to judge my mixes as well. These ones are closed and I get tired of them after a while. But they sound great.

The 990 pro is my current one, unfortunately the right speaker seems broken. Not sure about the cloth getting dirty, but I surely don't use it as often as you do. Most time it's later an evening, when I find time to hit the keys, so a headphone is a must (or I will have to find a new home soon Wink).
So I will have to go to an audio shop to check for HD240 and AKG, but I'm affraid, they will have some bad music to test only. So is it that the headphones being closed that makes one tired or is it the sound of the 271?

There is a couple of reasons that I personally don't like to work longer on closed headphones. First is that they tend to get warm on your ears (sweaty). Second is that the low end is building up pressure in your ears because it can't go anywhere. I find that tiring personally. Also it is more difficult to judge the low end and that is difficult anyway on headphones. The third reason is that at low volume you can even hear your own blood run in your ears. A sound that isn't supposed to be in your mix Wink But still all personal experience off course. Oh and the sounds of the AKG 271 is very nice. I use it as my backup mix headphones as well.

You can bring your own portable CD-player with you?

At the MEdiamarkt in Rotterdam they outselling Hitachi portable CDplayers for just EUR 5,99. I bought a couple of them because I like CD players more than those MP3 ones.
