This is an idea of a way to share all the great knowledge that we all have here on this forum.
Make a top five list on anything that has something to do with any kind of electronic music.
It could be your favorite sythezisernobs. Favorite album-titles. Favorite Samples. Anything goes... Smile

Besides the fun in it I think it will be great references as well.

I will start out with a list of bandmembers who I think did something great after the left there former band
(I know! Gahan have not left Depeche mode but I really, really like his solostuff)

Alan Wilder (Depeche mode) did "Recoil"

George Pappas (Real Life) did "Alien skin"

David Gahan (Depeche mode) did "David Gahan Solo"

Claudia Brucken (Propaganda) Paul Humphreys (OMD) did "Onetwo"

Tracy Howe (Men without hats) did "Rational youth"

A shame that Wilder left DM in 1995. He was the core of the band, really. His brother Andrew is a church organ player in my town, by the way. I have never really heard much of Recoil.

I didn't like Gahan's first solo album Paper Monsters. Haven't heard his second one.

Onetwo seems interesting, although I never really liked Brucken's voice. I love Betsi Miller on 1234 though. (Strange title coincidence, Onetwo and 1234.)

No question... Just make a topfive-list of anything connected to EM-music. For the fun of it and to enlighten others Smile

In no particular order:

1. Keyboards on Yamaha synths - nice feel and responsive

2. Billy Currie (Ultravox) - his (imho) under-rated solo works are far classier than a lot of the output from more "mainstream" EM acts

3. Dave Massey (Callisto/Code Indigo) - an essential element of the Geigertek sound. Personal bias? Yeah you bet, and I'll take anyone on who wants to push it Wink

4. Roland JV-2080 - older than David Wright but still a most excellent box of tricks for studio and stage

5. Enigma "MCMXC A.D." - as good as it gets

1. Irrlicht best ambient music
2. Yamaha AN1x has most options in a small box
3. Von Haulshoven best attitude
4. Harvey Bainbridge best philosophy
5. Motörhead no compromises (no EM but very good Wink )

Maybe we should rename this thread to "Pointless lists of random items"?

5 isn't enough - lol!!!

1. Computer - the best to happen to the studio and impoverished musicians

2. The Internet - it's allowed musos to link up like never before

3. Digital Download - allowing the impoverished muso to reach a wider audience, making music much more accessible and of course, music on the go!!! (Let's see the Stone Age Brigade start chucking their rocks at this one hehehe)

4. Kraftwerk - for making electronic music VERY cool

5. Moog - only a Philistine would ask why add this one - are you a Philistine? Wink
