for me it has to be TD...their music was innovative and in correlation to the development of synthesizer technology. I mean, their music was pure synthesizer music also in shape and construction, even if they added acoustic sounds here and there. Jarre and Vangelis were more like "normal" composers whose music would have worked if played even by a brass band at Oktoberfest... but think of Phaedra or Rubycon performed like that Smile

The best EM artist or group?

This would be me, of course.

Thank you. I love you all.

Stephen

Not being the one who'd claim that Klaus Schulze is the greatest artist of electronic music ever I am quite surprised that up to now only two of 29 voted for him though. I was assuming him being more favoured here.

However, I personally would prefer him before Tangerine Dream.

No surprise there for me, TDs style is after all quite a bit more accessible than KS...which doesnt mean that I dont like KS style...hes great and has produced some of the best records in EM, but overall its more or less the same album all over again, luckily in a good way in most cases.

IMO it would be interesting to have another poll that would concentrate in the "somebody else" cathegory...excluding the most self-evident names of Jarre/TD/Schulze/Kitaro/Vangelis... that might tell us something new???

Wait a minute. You forgot Albedo 0.39, Spiral, Opera Sauvage, Antarctica and Direct!

My first choice always would be Tangerine Dream. They are crazy, they are underground, they are rock.
