I agree....but i like the earlier "Second toughest of the infants" even more...great band indeed. Perhaps the best of the dance oriented electronica. I would also recommend highly their live DVD "Everything Everything". Top stuff... "pearls girl" has a really stomach shaking bass sounds. The track embodies the best things there was in the techno scene in the 90

i am with the first album i liked the 2nd and 3rd but for me the first had some real golden moments. i still love dirty epic after all these years. most people do seem to like the more upbeat stuff but not me.

I like the rest of their work (well, maybe not the newest stuff) but dubnobasswithmyheadman is just awesome.

I heard it on Annie Nightingale's show (I think) driving down the M40 and it took me years to find a copy, every time I looked in a record shop it was an empty section. Bizarre for something so mainstream, but worth the effort.

The Dark & Long EP is effectively the second CD of a double album. Worth finding if you don't have it.

"Christ on cruthes"
thats the one! if you can dig out interviews they did at the time most of the first album was done on a small set up i dont think they got a akai till the end and where using a casio fz 10 alomg with some dx 7 and arp 2600 (i think, could be wrong).
the track after is good as well the way they used 4 vocal samples to build up the intro. thats the everything everything, im invisable one.

andy

got to go and dig that one out now with all this talk!

I searched my old copy of the first album last evening and it sounds very very good. The minimal set-up doesn

Well, that depends on just how incomprehensible you mean. There are certainly some that could be in Swahili for all I know. But I think that's one thing I like, the words often seem to work as part of the rhythm rather than as a song on top.

Am I the only one who is reminded of Hawkwind's Valium 10 when I hear Spoonman?

Well, what the hell is THAT song about???? The only line I can make out is "When I get my Valium there" and I very likely mishear that one too Smile
Nice bubbly synth solo sound on that track, nevertheless...

Regarding Underworld

Good grief, I happened to hear something from the pre - dubnobassetc. Underworld recently. Shocked It's so bad it's not even funny.

I really like the dubnobasswithmyheadman and second toughest. Beaucoup Fish is great but it sounds a bit overproduced to me.

Beacoup Fish was what introduced me to Underworld. To be precise it was the Push Upstairs video on MTV. I had never seen and heard anything like that. I've read that here's a new album coming this year.

Had Beaucoup Fish on at work for a couple of spins earlier this week. There are several great tracks and a bunch of good ones - which is par for the course with Underworld.

There's a great shorter remix of Bruce Lee on one of the ep's that out. I agree - Dark and Long is a great ep - probably my favorite - and easily album length. Yeah - the more rock band version of Underworld is kind of humorous - what a great change.

I only have one post-Emerson album - and it's good. It took a bit of time to grow on me - but it's good. Seems to lack the thump, though.

I like dubno..., 2nd toughest, and Beaucoup pretty much equally - they're all a bit diferent.

Really great band, and one of my favorite songs is: "Cups", which in "Everything everything" they cut by half... that is not funny... but anyway... they are one of te best on their category!

King of snake, Moaner... "Top that"

One of the best live dance acts of the 90's and I should have given them much more attention at V2005 even if Emmerson had left. I think I missed my chance but thats what you get for having a girlfriend who must see the Chillies (who were crap that night btw). Confused

I think the newish UK electronic band Hot Chip are a kinda legacy of Underworld.
