Some advice please.

I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and I'd like to buy some new kit (why not?). I've always fancied an Akai AX80 and there's a guy near me with one for sale for

1. 600 euro is too much, here in NL you can buy 2 from that money.

2. I have an AX80. You can compare it best with the Roland JX3p. I find it one of the better Japanese analogue poly synths. It has DCO's. The DW8000 has 2x 256kb sample waveform ROM of 8bit samples. It has a very warm sound. It is the forerunner of the Wavestation.

The AX80 is better built. I used them both much on a lot on Kaleidoscopic Surrealism. Klaus Schulze used the DW8000 on "Dreams" and "En=trance"

Keith Emmerson used the EX8000 a lot. That's the rackversion. Jez Creek has one of those too.

I recommend both.

Buy it! I had the DW8000 for years. It's very good and much value for money. It's a combination of analog sounding and digital sounding oscillators and true analog warm filters. The programmable digital delay makes a good addition too. It makes very good analog strings and organs, as well as FM like e-pianos and tuned percussion. The only drawback IMO is the keyboard. It's a bit sloppy and slow.

I have a DW8000 with the Angel City Turbo mod (splits/layers/more banks) and I'm keeping it til it dies. I did like the AX80 however....I used to work in a store and sold them. Only basic sawtooth/pulse waves but that typical fat 80s sound. The filters have a nice transparency to them. And yes-the keyboard on the Akai feels a lot better than the Korg.
