Charvel GTM6 Midi Synth Guitar

Hi,

I know nothing about guitars and could not find anything straightforward for a layman to understand on Google. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me, in dumbed-down English, what the Charvel GTM6 does and why it was used. How could it be identified if heard on a song/tune? When was it made? Who used it alot?

I'll asume that as a MIDI guitar controler, its much the same as a Roland one I saw a prog rock band use eons ago.

The guitarist had it hooked up to a synth via MIDI and basically played the synth with the guitar so when you played the guitar note it played whatever sound the synth was set up to. ie organ piano, strings with the same note.

not really, the Charvel will be a proper guitar with a hex pickup to convert string pitch to midi information

whilst the Synth Axe was a controller with guitar like attributes

Yes, it's going to basically be like the Roland system of the same era (GK1 and GM70) Very useable, but nothing more. I used one for a while and still have it somewhere!
I have one of these too btw:

Which is more like the synthaxe principal except it has a built in synthesis section and Midi. The strings do not function like guitar strings but as triggers (you can either use it by triggering with the right hand strings or have it trigger whenever a string is pressed onto a fret.
Weird to play, but interesting.
