Did You have a chat with Tommy Betzler in Oirschot recently, Koos?

He was there (...on this picture, having a chat with Manuel Göttsching and - I think - Frits Couwenberg).

Wow, thanks for posting this beautiful and unique picture (the man on the left is Frits Couwenberg)

No unfortuntely I did not but assuming I would have had a chat with him my first question would have been: what happened to the huge gong he used for the concert of Klaus Schulze that I attended in Brussels in 1980 where he played drums and percussion ...

That must have been the open air concert where they also were joined by Manuel, I guess...? Vorst Nationaal...?

In case You don't know the bootleg... ;-)

As for that gong, incidentally Tommy has told me the story:

It was stolen from KS' studio (more precisely: from the IC studio) not long after that concert, and never was regained.

Tommy is still using very strong language when he's talking about it... 😉

Indeed that's the concert I attended and first time I have seen KS in concert. By the way it was not an open air concert, fortunately as it was snowing and freezing while we drove to Brussels and the concert had already started when we arrived. Fond memories and great drumming 👍

Oha! Hm, thinking about it, I probably thought it was open air because the name of the location (forêt = forest) did suggest that. I always assumed that it had taken place in summer, too...

Re-listened to the audience recording yesterday; an interesting concert for sure. Although quite different from Klaus' concerts during the mid to late 70ies, I think. Rather rock-infused, partly (obviously) due to Manuel's guitar playing, and the live drumming. Some "avantgarde" moments, too...

Btw. if anyone is interested - here's a recording of a drum + sequencing session I recorded with Tommy Betzler a few weeks ago while rehearsing when we did drum recordings for our upcoming album (that hopefully will manifest one day...). Acutally, this is a slightly "enhanced" version of that session, I did that for a radio show on welle303 that was featuring Tommy's music...

"Forest National (French) or Vorst Nationaal (Dutch) is a multi-purpose arena in Brussels, Belgium. The arena can hold more than 8,000 people."

Those were the days :)
