DSTEC OS1 Original Syn

I made a demo song just to show the DSTEC OS1
http://homepage.mac.com/dlmorley/dstec2edit.mp3

It's an analogue monosynth and I just multitracked in Logic to show the synth off. FX from logic.
No other synth used. Just the DSTEC.
I love multitracked monosynths for strings. Somehow sounds nicer than polysynths for some stuff.
Anyway, the tune is just thrown together and cheesy, but it's there to show the synth.
An oddball synth really that could have done well (based on the fact that it sounds great I think) but came into a crowded marketplace at the wrong time (1999). I have 2 (one a black prototype as I made factory patches for the company and helped a bit with the spec of the synth)

Anyway, enjoy!

Nice David - very clever layering for those string parts (I agree with your thoughts re. this - when done well, you can get a much richer sound by layering monosynths rather than using a polysynth - just listen to Tomita's albums!).

The music reminds me a bit of Serge Blenner BTW.

Thx Zen!

Yes, layered strings sound nicer in many ways.
First of all, you tend to avoid cliched chords. Too easy to start with an Am chord! Also you can get more movement into the chords as opposed to the static thing that happens with a chord every 4 bars or so (I stand accused and admit guilt here!)
I'm certainly going to write some stuff using this technique.

Anyway, having just turned the DSTEC on for the first time in ages, it feels like having a new synth!
