FAX

Thought I'd start a thread on Pete Namlook's FAX label, IMHO one of the most outstanding success stories in the whole (relatively short) history of EM, or at least the idea of having your own EM label and doing limited edition CDs aimed at fans and collectors alike.

I know that the whole idea of limited editions annoys the hell out of few fans, especially when they miss a release. But at least Pete set up the Ambient World label, so from time to time you can pick up those releases you missed and fill the holes in your collection.

For the musician it seems a fairly good way to run things and by and large PN seems to make a good living out of it, but obviously the main plus point is that ever few months you have a new release to look forward to (although not all of the releases are unmissable IMHO).

As if I missed this post!

Only discovered FAX a few years ago but couldn't believe what I'd been missing (although 1000 copies an album it isn't surprising)! Some of the finest electronic music made in the past 15yrs thats introduced me to some of the the worlds finest electronic producers. I think its good that they've kept the concepts of traditional EM in a newer abstract electronica style.

I think the exclusivity of the limited releases is irrelevant with FAX on iTunes and eMusic now but its still nice to get something precious when you do buy a proper FAX CD and its more quality that quantity on FAX these days. 8)

My faves are...

Zenith
Outland
Fires of Ork
S.H.A.D.O.
Ambiant Otaku
2350 Broadway collection
Psychonavigation
Russian Spring
Create 2
Namlook X
Exploring the Psychedelic Landscape
Wechselpannung
Aerial Service Area
Dark Side of the Moog 8
Dreamfish (still my fave)

I'm sure there are other gems I've forgotten.

Has anyone ever tried faxing FAX? :P

In fact I still have a fax from FAX outlining release details for an album I sent Pete back in 1995 - unfortunately I also have the fax he sent a couple of weeks later saying he was no longer able to go through with the release (this was at the time where FAX had to cut back their releases from an album a week - so some newer artists on the label had to miss out).
