I noticed there was no mention of Gary Wright, yet. He had a huge hit with 'Dreamweaver'. Probably one of the first synths only pop bands?

Here's a clip (with Jeff Porcaro): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCc7XJRDD74

I have to confess I have a soft spot for that song (and a couple of his others).

Saw him on a tour with Al Stewart, Ambrosia & Christopher Cross several years ago (Ambrosia was the backing band for all of the acts, when they weren't playing under their own name). At first I thought that Jimmy Buffett was on-stage, since they look a lot alike now, but I have never seen JB with a red synth controller in his hands. :D

I have some close-up pictures somewhere; I'll post one or two if I can find 'em, although the bulk of the shots are of Al Stewart, who I was most interested in hearing.
