Although I am aware that this might sound a bit cynical and provoking to some, but I wonder how much replies this thread might have had if there was just yet another analogue sequencer/synthesizer introduced.

I do not own a monome. But at least I find the concept interesting since yet I don't really get how it works...

However, why do I mention this here anyway? Because I think that becomes apparent that "Electronic Music" does not just mean "Music that has been made by the use of electronic devices".
It seems to be that it is rather more about a certain sound of just a couple of bands and artists that once used to be destinctive and characteristic for the so-called "Electronic Music".

...isn't it?

Not for me at least. I listen to a lot of 'electronic' music. From Roedelius, to Con_sense, from Heldon to Max Richter. Actually, I'm pretty bored by all the cheap Berliner Schule clones. I'd rather listen to something a bit more innovative.

The two are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to like both. 😉

Possibly the only notably thing about Berlin School now is how many people, in this microcosm we inhabit, go out of their way to distance themselves from it.

It seems to be the "cool" thing to do. :)

Maybe, but just release a CD with a Hubble shot of some distant galaxy, give it a title like Cosmic something, and mention Berlin School cosmic winds and pulsating sequenecs, I bet it will still attract more attention than anything else.

As Berlin School abandonment being cool, would that start with the artist, audience or both.
That would create a large gap as some releases focus just around that style, I can't imagine an ambient or melodic synth Redshift or AirSculpture.
I think the style will live on somehow.
