JMJ's Sessions 2000 and Geometry of Love

I was surprised to hear both of these albums by Jean Michel Jarre. Showing a very different side of his musical repertoire, they are, each in their own unique way, filled with lovely cascades of melodic riffs, tasteful arrangements of chilled beats, and a glaze of forward-looking sonic experimentation covering a heart of timeless thematic beauty. It could be argued that the overall style is quite easy to spot in the "lounge/chillout" scene, but frankly I find it hard to believe someone could listen to either album and not recognize the classic Jarre sound contained therein.

Since both releases were fairly informal, little publicized affairs, it may be a bit difficult to find them readily available, but it's worth the effort. There may be other Jarre albums that will stand the test of time in a more notable fashion, but taken in their own important context, these are fine works of lasting quality. I give them both a hearty thumbs up.

I like these albums too. GOL more than Sessions, but the latter has a better sound quality to my ears.

Jarre's contract with Sony (via Dreyfus) was not a fiasco, if you look at it from a sales perspective; two studio albums that sold a combined 6.5 milliojn copies + 6 concerts in the period of the contract.

Has GOL ever been issued in physical form? I've only been able to get it off of iTunes.

GOL was released physically as a digipack CD. But in fact, it was sold out a while ago, so unless a retailer has stocks left, you're not likely to find it, as Warner will probably not reprint it. So iTunes it is.

I like both albums, and like most other posters, GOL more than Sessions, it was good to hear Jarre make music again in stead of trying to sound hip and fresh like he wanted with Meta and T&T.

I prefer Metamorphoses.
I do agree with Soundwave I have the same feeling that GOL and Sessions were end off contract albums.
