Found these quotes on Yahoo...

"There is no difference between a Stradivarius or a beautiful synthesizer sound," Zawinul told Jazziz magazine earlier this year. "People make a big mistake in putting down electronic music. Yes, it's been misused and abused, but that's true of every music."

"There is nothing wrong with electronic music as long as you're putting some soul behind the technology."

All very true, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing the bad news. I would not have known this had I not checked the forum.

What a great loss of such a passionate and talented musician.
I am a huge Weather Report fan and will always have fond memories of hearing Zawinuls exotic synth tones on those early ARP 2600's.

I think he was a pioneer not only in jazz but in the music world in genereal taking the synthesizer beyond the rock idiom and carving out a unique approach to the instrument.

Joe left his musical marks on all of us who craved something more than the ordinary! He proved electronic instruments can have a very warm and inviting place in our listening worlds.

Tale Spinning & Black Market will always be a classic in my music library!
