Small.

But will it be beautiful?

No. To me it is just a toy and not an 'instrument'.

Cheap way to get an MS filter though. :D

Certainly you can find even cheaper solutions. That I can tell you for sure.

Question is: Do you actually need something as shitty-sounding as an MS10 filter?

I could never get the hype that was (and is) being made about the Korg MS series. There are nicer "ugly-sounding" synths around. Give me a Polivoks anyday... or a Steiner-Parker Synthacon... or an Estradin 231.

The Monotone reminds me of the ugly Electro Harmonix Mini Synthesizer I used to have ages ago (the one with the cardboard bottom)... I got silly money for it (bought it at a pawnshop for, I think, less than a tenner), and you can´t believe how happy I was to let go of it.

I kinda agree - the demos I've seen of the Monotron sounds like shit.

It´s probably interesting when you´ve got plenty of outboard fx devices you can run it through, or some extensive collection of stompboxes to modify the sound with, but... this is not exactly the point of having such a small and portable instrument, is it?

If I really, really wanted that MS-type of filter (which I don´t), I´d get myself a Frostwave Resonator.

I had a new ms10 back in 1978 haha what a cheap ugly toy sound it had, after 2 months I sold it again.
it was affordable but, even cheap romplers of today sounds better than that.

I have another opinion like the most of you.
A few weeks ago i saw a demo of the Stylophone.
It's a small machine, they sell it at amazon for about 25$.
It's like a toy.

The monotron for example sounds very good for such a small machine.

I think this is a very good strategy from Korg and they will sell a lot of these.
The price, so around 59 Euro's is also very good, and i will buy one, that's for sure.
I also have a MS10 in my studio, beside it looks very nice, it has a very good sound IMO, but we're used to it as Korg is a very good synthbrand.

Most reactions i read about the monotron, is "It's like a cheap toy", but then a cheap toy with a very good sound IMO !!!!!!
