I think that The Dragon and Hypothesis are considered rarities because Vangelis never officially acknowledged them. They were studio jams that were not supposed to be released, at least that is what I heard. The mastertapes were smuggled out of the studio and pressed on vinyl, and Vangelis never received a penny from their sales. Again, that's "the word" on the internet.
I bought them quite a long time ago. I had just bought Heaven and Hell, because some music of that album had been used in the television series Cosmos (presented by the legendary Carl Sagan). Much to my surprise, a lot of the music on H&H was quite different from what was used as background music in Cosmos, so at first I was a bit disappointed.
