Hypothesis and The Dragon ?

Vangelis: "they are fakes!"

*imho* the worst pieces of crap i've ever heard that were related to Vangelis...

Call them pirates, bootlegs or fakes, no surprise anyway that Vangelis never acknowledged these "records" (in fact this affair made him very angry!).
Back to spring 1971, it was just a try amongst many others for Vangelis, nothing more. Jam sessions, improvisations with a band formed around him. Actually it was the idea of the producer G. Gomelky who asked his friend Vangelis... Mr V. naturally accepted to give at least a try. He tried... and then he withdrew, because he wasn't happy with such a band project (and certainly not happy at all with the sounding result of these early sessions neither)! Aborted? Yes sure! but... unfortunately a bootlegger who was aware of the existence of such "forgotten" demo recordings lost somewhere in the studio managed to steal the archives a few years later. The bootlegger released the demos as two so-called regular "albums" on his own 'legal' label Charly records (hence a certain confusion in the mind of some fans), of course all illegitimately and illegally, a smart (and disgusting) way to cash in on the then famous "Vangelis" name (did you notice the anachronistic status of the artist name on the sleeves?). Sad story, really. :(
Better forget it!

By the way... how much you think I can have from my Dragon LP?

Enough for a brand new synth? Hehe...
I think not...

No, unfortunately not. It greatly depends on the exact version and the overall state it is in. Prices vary between 20 and 100 dollars. The same goes for Hypothesis.

Far too much!!
The high limit for these items in mint condition should be around 10/12 euros or 15/18 dollars, maximum (and that's only if you're a rich die-hard fan and completist :D ). (*imho* a decent medium price: 3 euros  ).

Interesting what you comment, because the cover art, indeed, for both of them surpasses even some of the subsequent Vangelis' albums...

Do you really think so? Bear in mind it has nothing to do with Vangelis. The cover art was the bootlegger's choice. He "borrowed" (with or without permission, that's the question, although I guess the answer 8) ) existing artworks...

As a matter of fact, I found a rather good copy of The Dragon for only 4 Euro's yesterday

No reason to be surprised. I often see them for 4/5 euros or less, sometimes it's up to 10 euros rarely more, but you can also find cheaper: about 1 or 2 euros each (or both, don't remember), mint condition, like the copies I got at a record fair. 8)

I agree with you that the prices I mentioned are way too high. But I did not make them up, they can be found at http://www.gemm.com

Why forget it? Although it is a strange story, I would not call it sad. Back in those days (when there was no Internet and illegal downloads) people wanted "illegal" music just as much as they want it today. Just look to yourself: when you are a huge fan of an artist, and you are able to "acquire" some unofficial recordings, wouldn't you like to have them?

Some artists have a rather relaxed attitude towards bootlegging their music. They rather think that bootlegging their music is a real honour (because it shows that your music is wanted!) than making a fuss about it. In most cases it is the record company making a fuss, because they have exclusive "rights" to an artists music.

In Vangelis' case it is clear that he himself rejected the recordings at the time. But did they wipe the tapes? Did they re-record over them? No, they hid them in the studio's archive (maybe for later use???).

I can't help but think that Vangelis was unpleasantly surprised when they were released and people actually bought them. He probably would have liked to make some money out of them after all. The fact that the albums were released on CD indicates that they have some musical value (at least to others...), and I must admit that I bought the CD too.

Sorry Big V. but I don't think you will miss the money you didn't receive from my buy...
