Hi!

Does anyone of you know what instrument or instruments were used to create the Mellotron Brass sound?

I mean the sound often heard on TD records during their golden era (not the "Watcher of the skies" sound).

I would guess trumpets, but sometimes it sounds like saxophones too.

Since my EMU VK-6 does not have this sound, I am trying to re-create it using different brass samples and some filtering, but no success so far.

Saxophone, trombone, and trumpet.

TD used the Mixed Brass B tapeset, and occasionally a GC 3 Brass which sounded slightly edgier.

Judging from my ears, the TD sound I'm after is the GC 3 Brass - three trombones. The MBB seemes to be the "Watcher..." sound.
Thanks guys!

You could, in theory, buy one old AKAI sampler cheap these days (S-3200 or the like) and then... buy my AKAI CD-ROM full of M400 stuff...

Well, I have all the sounds I want except that brass on my EMU VK-6.

And about Tapeworm; I want real gear, not software.

Fair enough but I included it as you could sample the sounds from it as you said you were using samples in your first post.
