I have been lucky so far not to be taken to the cleaners by a dishonest seller, but a fellow forum member on the Waldorf list won a Waldorf XT on eBay and when the box arrived, all there was was newspaper and birdseed.

This creep went out of his way to get the buyer excited about his new toy and then pour salt where the knife was sticking out from his heart.

My question is have you ever been ripped off?

This can be from sellers on eBay or somewhere else...........

So far all my e bay purchases have been OK. I did have an item lost in the post but was given a full refund. I was also sold expensive cdr's which were advertised on e bay as cd's I was well pissed off. I reported the arse to e bay who did absolutely nothing abot it.

Only ever had an issue as a seller - i sold a guy a hr16 drum box in the eighties that had some issues. I sold it with full disclosure, IE explained the issues carefully (the classic HR16 lean-on-the-buttons problem, plus it had a a home-made power supply) and sold him it for next to nothing. Nevertheless, the guy phoned me repeatedly, accused me of ripping him off, v v abusive. He was a nutjob, go figure. I learned my lesson - if you want to sell broken high-end stuff, get it fixed before selling it, broken low-end stuff, give it away, it's not worth the grief.

Last year I sold a Korg EM-1 mark 1 on ebay
and it was bid up to 185 uk pounds, which was
more than a brand new mark 2 version.
Full disclosure, lots of pics, the whole thing.
I duly sent it off, then the buyer comes back
at me saying I charged him too much.
WTF !!!!!!!!
I pointed out that I didn't force him to bid that high
and he complained to ebay. There's some idiots.

I was close to being fooled once. I guy sold an SH-5 on ebay.de, and he had multiple user accounts so he could bid on his own auction! I lost the auction, but shortly after he contacted me and said the winner (=himself) had retracted his bid, so it was mine to buy (at quite a price). Right after that a third user mailed me and warned me about the seller (Thanks!).
I argued with the seller for a while, but didn't have the energy to process against him.
Beware.

Was fooled once, almost a second time. A third bidder tipped me off and so I confronted the guy, refusing to pay--incidentally, the seller left a positive feedback, go figure. The second, item didn't arrive within stipulated time, so I reported to eBay and received a full refund, care of PayPal Buyer Protection. Tip: Only bid from seller's with really high (some 99%) positive feedback; read the negative feedback, noting entry dates; ensure it's less than $2,000 that is covered by PayPal Buyer Protection; that the item IS covered by the Protection. Otherwise, caveat emptor. 'course, this doesn't cover all scenarios, and is the reason I rarely bid nowadays. I've sold also, but always through an agent--they take a percentage, but I'm spared the grief.

A blagger tried to shill bid me for a Revolution but I got smart before the end and he got greedy and shot himself in the foot.
The then had the cheek to offer me a 2nd chance for my amount just under his false bid 5mins after the auction finished!

Some arse from the US ripped me off (or more my partners kid) with some Yugio cards showing a picture of some very rare cards with 'example picture only' in the tiniest writing. He deliberately targeted overseas buyers and the overpriced p&p meant it wasn't really worth sending them back.
Making a child cry like this is really the lowest of the low.
