Postage from amazon.com to Europe

I ordered a DVD from amazon.com yesterday. Postage: 11 euro.

It's the same with a CD, I guess.

Thankfully, amazon.co.uk is far cheaper, but they don't have Earth's biggest selection, as amazon.com has.

Opinions?

It's not just the shipping...

Recently I ordered 3 cd's from the US (think it was from Spotted Peccary). Nice price, as usual. Until I found out that I also had to pay all kinds of taxes and handling costs to the Dutch authorities and postal service. :-(

just an idea: find/contact a trusted relative or Em-enthusiast in the US who can get the wanted items for you and to whom you can arrange the money-transfer; alternatively, one could also swap items that way with no money-transfer involved at all.
In the final stage, items can send be send (with or without cd/dvd cases) & marked as "gift";
this saves postage, VAT etc.
Just my 2 cents.

To Norway, this is just a problem if the package has a value on more than 200 NOK (26 Euro). And as Bert pointed out, if the sender marks the package as a "gift", the problem should be solved.

Your first two solutions are not really an alternative for me.

I'm not sure if Amazon (Marketplace) has the "send without case" possibility. Have to check it out the next time around.

Shipping has gotten outrageous from Europe to the US as well.

am getting close to not buying from Europe anymore, recently I had an artist want 25 US dollars for a cd, that's just crazy. I'm sure cds will die off soon for EM industry unless you buy from fellow artist countrymen.

Since that amount includes shipping, it simply means you can only order one cd at a time. There's no way companies, big or small, will put a different amount on the parcel.
