Dear friends of electronic music,
on April 28, 2026, Ronald Schmidt (Faber) passed away. Here are a few personal words from me:
I met Ronald on May 4, 2009. At the time, he had sent me his debut album “Spacefish” for release. I was immediately captivated by his music, and the album was released just a few weeks later. But we also clicked immediately on a personal level. Even though we unfortunately never met in person, a friendship had developed between Ronald and me over the course of the last 17 years. In countless phone calls and messages, we shared stories from our lives, philosophized about technology, and had plenty of geeky chats. That continued right up until shortly before his death. Our conversations were always very entertaining, engaging, and above all, intense and personal. I’m going to miss this very much.
Ronald was an incredibly interesting musician because he drew from virtually every genre and blended them with electronic music in his own unique way. He was really good at that. He had so many wonderful musical ideas and such an immense output that I had to hold him back. I look back with great fondness and vivid clarity on all those moments when we crafted the final 17 albums from his songs, concepts, and ideas. Because that was truly fun.
I will miss Ronald dearly as a musician, a person, and a longtime, loyal musical companion. His music lives on… Rest in peace, my friend.
