Maybe it's not about the "best" synth, but the "most popular" one, or the "best selling" one, or the "most used in popular music" one.

And by those qualifications I can see why the D-50 scores higher than a CS-80.

Make no mistake, I'll take any analog over a D-50 anytime, anywhere, but maybe that wasn't the point of this poll.

On the other hand, the MiniMoog was on #1, so there's still justice I suppose...

Crap.

the M1ex is a nice one. You can make nice pad sounds with it. The sound quality is similar to the Wavestation EX.

The D50 has a good synth-section, only the samples can be missed.

If this is a top 20 of synths, why including a Solina at all?

No, I would not vote for some of the top 20 "synths" that are ROMplers or preset synths.

I mean the M1 and D50 were important, but sonically I don't rate them (in fact I find the D50 NASTY and the M1 pretty boring). Sure you can make some decent sounds out of them, but you can with any number of synths of that style.

These list are of course always silly. It depends what you criteria are and everyone has different criteria.
For me, the ARP 2600 is the most useful and powerful synth in my selection. It has been on nearly every recording I have ever done. Makes it my number 1 but so what! That's just what I do....for someone else, the M1 may be the perfect ticket.
