Sonolab 179 - Livestream / On Demand Stream

Have prepared the next episode of Sonolab and tonight's show has a space / planetary theme as its 'leitmotif'

The show is on every Sunday evening from 19:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs and tonight will feature music by:

Especially the last track by Hugh Banton, whom I did not know until today intrigued me. Meanwhile I have bought his album 'the Planets'

the 'theme' approach works very well especially when you start to use small fragments to emphasize certain aspects. Talking about Themes the Banton track triggered my interest and I found out that he used to play with Van der Graaf Generator. The funny part here is that I have never heard any of their material so I went to Spotify and picked out Pawn Hearts. 1971, unbelievable that I 'overlooked' this record. Their music is totally mind blowing, interesting from the beginning till the end including Theme One (original version) which I know but from Cozy Powell's 'Over the Top album' (1979) but apparently this track was added to the 2005 reissue. Another part that was added is 'Diminutions' composed and played by the same Hugh Banton (Hammond and Farfisa organs, piano, mellotron, ARP synthesizer, bass pedals, bass guitar, vocals)

Quite a discovery on a cold Sunday evening in 2010, 39 years after its original release
