Have prepared the next episode of Sonolab and my 'muse' took me into quite a different direction this week. I had been thinking all week about the theme of the show which somehow had to be either Winter or Christmas. But it was only when I listened to a cd with music from Estonian composer Arvo Pärt that a solid idea became to form. The whole show is a hybrid of otherworldly modern classical works and wintery ambient soundscapes of which 2 are reworkings of music composed Arvo Pärt.

The show is on every Sunday evening from 19:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs and tonight will feature music by:

* Arvo Pärt - Cantus In Memoriam Of Benjamin Britten
Performed by Staatsorchester Stuttgart conducted by Dennis Russel Davies.
From the album Tabula Raso on ECM New Series

* Charles Ives - Washington's Birthday [Winter] (excerpt)
performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas.
Released bySony Classical

* Anthony DiStefano - Arvo Pärt's Pari Intervallo (Gravel Rework)

* Arvo Pärt - Fratres
performed by the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
From the album Tabula Raso on ECM New Series

* Wendy Carlos - Winter (wolf section)
from the album Sonic Seasonings

* Loreena McKennitt - Prospero's Speech
from the album The Mask And The Mirror

* Charles Ives - Symphony no. 4 : IV. movement Very Slow (Largo Maestoso)
Performed by Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton
Released by Hyperion Records

* Anthony DiStefano - Arvo Pärts Cantus In Memoriam Of Benjamin Britten

The two Anthony DiStefano pieces, plus many more, can be downloaded for free (in WAV format) from his Soundcloud page which you can find here:

Click on "Live stream" in the left column or for a week after broadcast the whole show is available as an On Demand Stream from the website of our radiostation. Where can you find that? Well, here of course:

http://www.omroepalmelo.nl/sonolab/

and then click "Luister naar uitzending gemist" in the middle of the screen. A second window will open up (might be that you have to accept that through your pop-up killer) and the show starts (with a bit of that evenings 19:00 hours news first).

Check in if you have the time and let me know what you think of the show.
