Pfff... this one took a lot more preparation then I thought. Not so much musically but in finding good sound sources for some documentary material that I wanted to use in between the pieces. Friday, January 28th was the 25th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and this edition of Sonolab is a tribute to that mission and also to the 'space race' up to that point.

The show is on every Sunday evening from 19:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs and tonight I will present music by:

* Jean Michel Jarre - First Rendezvous and Second Rendezvous
from Rendez-Vouz (label: Disques Dreyfus)

* Tangerine Dream - Cloudburst Flight
from Force Majeure (label: Virgin)

* Ian Boddy - Space Cadet & Interstellar Interlude No. 1
from The Uncertainty Principle (label: Something Else)

* Cosmic Hoffman - Lightstar Rising
from Shiva Connection (label: Heart And Mind)

* Jean Michel Jarre - Last Rendezvous
from Rendez-Vouz (label: Disques Dreyfus)

* Michael Stearns - Star Dreams
from Encounter (label: Hearts Of Space)

Click on "Live stream" in the left column or for a week after broadcast the whole show is available as an On Demand Stream from the website of our radiostation. Where can you find that? Well, here of course:

http://www.omroepalmelo.nl/sonolab/

and then click "Luister naar uitzending gemist" in the middle of the screen. A second window will open up (might be that you have to accept that through your pop-up killer) and the show starts (with a bit of that evenings 19:00 hours news first).

Check in if you have the time and let me know what you think of the show.

The music did the talking ..........

Well chosen and beautifully melded Chris; a true tribute to the mission that ended so tragically.

"Obviously a major malfunction"

The comments of Steve Nesbitt (NASA public affairs officer) gave and still gives me the creeps if you know what is
going on there. The musical emotion comes from Jarre who did a beautiful job composing Rendez-Vous.

Thanks for the audio 'documentary'. Very interesting and touching!

It went considerably well considering the fact that the whole thing was 'mixed' live. One tiny mistake was that I started the "Go To The Moon And Do The Other thing" speech by Kennedy perfect in time but hesitated slightly with pushing up the fader :-(...

All in all, a very satisfying experience ....
