Isn't this funny...?

The most distinguishing feature of Braheny's best music is the Steiner EWI, a remarkable electronic string instrument which in his gifted hands sounds as expressive and emotionally resonant as any violin, viola or cello music.

EWI = Electronic Wind Instrument

The Steiner EWI is what you are referring to, and yes Kevin Braheny uses it on "Dreamtime Return" also the Lyricon is of similar sound and Steve Jolliffe uses this on Cyclone

Steps Ahead was a great project and I wish I still had that first recording of theirs....."Night Flight"

The Steiner EWI

AFAIK, this instrument (a modification of it) was later produced by AKAI as well.
