Ok. Nice to see some die hard Terje Rypdal fans here including me a synth musician.

Now all of you know Terje's an amazingly versitile guitar player and composer who can shred when he feels its necessary but has anyone ever listened to his 1976 release "After the Rain"?

It was my first exposure to his music back in the 1980's because a) I like aestethics of the album cover which is a solemn green hill against the blue sky b) it was in the cut-out bin so I could actually afford to purchase the LP and c) it had Rhodes and ARP string ensemble on it.

Its a quiet excursion by Terje. There no drums or heavy bombastic moments and its filled with lucid reflective and melodic tone poetry.
He plays a few instruments you will never hear him play such as the nylon string acoustic guitar(he never plays acoustic period), flute and the ARP string ensemble. His wife joins in on wordless vocals on a few pieces.

This is a beautiful album and it is only available on cd from ECM Germany and its well worth attaining.

Well my $.02 worth on Terje. I also like the material with David Darling EOS and the albums with Miroslav Vitous!

I second everything you say about After the Rain - great album.

Well now I know I'm not the only one aware of this minor album for him.

I think Rypdal fans enjoy his more group oriented efforts which are of course much more involved.

Its nic eto know he can kick back and chill with the rest of us!

People need to know of this release.

BTW recently aquired the Singles Collection which to me has nothing to do with pop culture but has everything to do with a more 90s version of Terje's ensemble. Theres much more electronic's in this release along with his usual fantastic guitar offerings! A nice release I always looked over because of the gimmick like title(poor marketing idea??).
