Two ELKA Solist 505 test tracks...

Recently I had the good fortune to buy my first analog vintage synth - a rather humble instrument though, an ELKA Solist 505 monophonic lead synthesizer from the late 1970ies.

Humble, yes, but it has two advantages:

1.) it was affordable ;-)

2.) Rumor has it that they built it with an unlicensed (an therefore not officially announced) Moog filter...

This is how it looks like:

And on my rehearsal SoundCloud thingy You find two quick test tracks I recorded with it - quite retro sounding, might be fun to one or the other of You:

Oh, and when You're already over there anyway, why not have a listen on this extended improvisation from February, a reheasal session for my living room concert two weeks later, actually...

The best description of this instrument I found on the net is from the German EM musician and vintage synth specialist Till Kopper (one half of the duo EL-KA).

Actually, it was him who sold me this synth and even brought it right to my living room without charing any shipping fees - a big "thank You" to him!

If You're interested in the technical aspects, have a look at his page, please:

Congretulations Michael :)

Today I'm going to buy my first analogue synth apart from my Monotrons: a Doepfer Dark Energy II.

Nice track full of cool sounds.

I know it had to be hard for Till to part with one of his ELKAs.

My first keyboard was an ELKA Rhapsody around 1975.

Thanks a lot!

Oh yes - I've read a lot about the Dark Energy and also listened to some demos. Fascinating instrument - sure You'll have fun with it!

And thanks a lot, too!

Well, Till seemed quite happy to sell it to me, actually... ;-)

I think he needed space in his studio (for some other, and quite likely much cooler, synth, he told me, but I confess it escapes me which one it was at the moment...)

I'd love to have an ELKA Synthex (Sic!) actually...
