Fri Jan 03, 2025 5:12 am The end of this forum??? |
  |
It seems that there is no administrator, or at least somebody who can fix problems with this forum. And this is for several reasons:
Creating a new account doesn't work anymore. I tried it and I receive the following error message:
Quote:
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 550 No such recipient here
DEBUG MODE
Line : 158
File : smtp.php
Is see that my test account is created (memberslist) but of course I didn't receive a confirmation email. Apparently this problem already exists from November 2023!
And secondly the security certificate of the website is invalid! I now need to access Emportal via HTTP! Which is very insecure...
Is there still an administrator who takes care off this forum? If that is not the case I would recommend to close the forum!
The question is off course who is "paying" for this website???
But maybe the "problem" will solve itself:

Update:
I finally received an email that my account is created but now I need to wait for this: "the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another email when this has occured."
Let's see...

Hi Jac,
Thank you for the reaction.
But the interesting question: Is somebody working on the problems to fix them?
If I can be of any assistance I'm happy to do so.

As you have probably noticed during the past ‘few’ years this not a single problem but there is a huge pile of difficulties as the current software is totally out-of-date. It requires a complete new version including migration of the current data to make things happen…

Migrating the old data will be a nightmare. Not only because some of the data is corrupt. EMPortal had several encoding issues in the past.
Starting afresh would be the best option imho. Sure, you'll loose all history. But the question is if it's worth keeping this.
Another question to ask is if EMPortal has still a place in this world.

The End of this Forum ???
Why post that ? recommend closure ? Eh ?
I for one certainly hope that never happens. There are not many places out there to discuss or post about our style of music.
Does EMportal still have a place in this world? I certainly hope so , I look in here every day and also still look over old posts for information. Im sure many folk do. For instance I notice there are many thousands of views on the now playing thread between posts.
Hope the forum continues for many moons

I totally agree.
I visit this forum on a daily basis since more than a decade now, and I'm really still fond of it. That would be a sad day when it disappeared, and I really hope it will be possible to go on.
Of course it's true that there are some technial issues and I hope it will be able to fix them in one way or another.
Also true that there had been more interesting discussions and active member participation, but we could all change that in the wink of an eye by interacting more. Why don't we just do it...? In a nice and respectful way, preferably...

My concern is that if these problems are not fixed in the end the forum, and members, will "shrink"..
Already for a few months it is not possible for people to create a new account as this process is currently broken.
For the administrator of this forum: Just bite the bullit and perform a migration to the latest supported phpBB software...
Has a "test migration" already been tried out to see what kind of problems there are??

maybe you can set up a donation area so you can use that money for the extra costs.
