I'm genuinely gobsmacked. I was fortunate enough to see a couple of Redshift and Arc concerts and what Mark did with the sequencer was unique and irreplaceable.

As reported by Ian Boddy on FB:

I am deeply upset & terribly saddened to have to make this announcement but my long time friend & musical collaborator Mark Shreeve passed away yesterday. I've known him for 40 years and we have of course composed and released a lot of music together as well as playing on stage at many memorable concerts. And these memories are certainly precious to me and will be forever. Here are a few further words from Mark's brother Julian.
“As Mark’s sibling and long-term musical collaborator, I am devastated that he has left us so soon – not only losing my only brother but also a terrible loss of creativity, capability, and the enormous dedication he had to create quality EM: he was a giant in electronic music and an expert in digital, analogue, and modular synthesis, as well as in production and performance. From early days as very young men when we visited ‘music shops’ to try out synths we could not afford, to performing in many European EM festivals over 27 years, Mark’s passion inspired me to get involved with him and the scene, and to assist him in his earlier music career as well as be a creative contributor to Redshift’s sound and albums. I know he has inspired countless others and has developed a dedicated fanbase whom will also miss him terribly. I hope all of us will continue to value his wonderful legacy for the remainder of our daysâ€.
Julian Shreeve.

I am heartbroken.

Mark was one of the most important teachers in my musical career.

"Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight." (Brian Wilson) -- and strength to Julian and Sue and to all who loved him.

The shock that I felt when I read the title of this post is hard to describe. What a terrible loss. Mark's music, both as a solo artist and as a member of Redshift and ARC was an important part of my life. A master of melodies and sequences.

Totally shocked at this awful news. Sad

KS & Vangelis may be the bigger names, but unlike them I still loved every album Mark has released right up to the present - what a truly high quality body of work he has left us with.

RIP Mark and thanks for giving us so much great EM

I was shocked and stunned when I read the news of Mark's passing. It's such a shame he has gone so early and he was a decent guy too. I feel so lucky to have seen him in concert many times since the first time I saw him at the 1984 UK Electronica. He was a craftsman of building up complex dynamic sequences, totally awesome with the Moog. The way he played the sequences and opening the filters was breathtaking, so powerful. His solo library works are also superb. I was hoping to see him in concert again in the near future with Redshift or Arc, but alas this will no longer be. His music is still here and will be for a long time I think.

RIP Maestro Mark - Thank you for the music

No words, just sadness upon seeing this announcement.

Being in the USA, I never had an opportunity to see him live but have enjoyed every album I heard, starting with "Assassin" way back when. When he released "Thoughts of War" on CD, I missed the initial release and wrote to Mark to buy a copy, no response. Until about 6 months later a package arrived from the UK; it was a copy of "ToW", free of charge, autographed with a very apologetic note from Mark for missing my mail until then. A top-notch guy who will be sorely missed. RIP, Mark.

Maybe its time to honor Mark on the landing page of the site as we have had plenty of time to honor Vangelis?

Other than that, Mark was someone you could get in touch with on a personal level.

How many people have ever had a pint of lager with Klaus Schulze (or Vangelis, for that matter)?

Of course, the passing of KS and Vangelis is tragic but, emotionally, it doesn't affect me as strongly.

Vert sad news. He was a great guy who even sent me DVD copies of two films he scored in the 80s, TURNAROUND and BUY & CELL.
