E-MU Vintage Keys

Two weeks ago I moved some keyboards my music partner was using from one room to another and today was first change for us to record. After a few minutes we discovered the sustain pedal wasn't working on the E-MU Vintage Keys. I went to the Global menu but there wasn't any mention of sustain. The two inputs are Footswitch and Pedal so I double checked and saw it was plugged into the pedal jack but still no sustain. We both looked at eack other and agreed it was working before I moved it. I did the usual troubleshooting routine and swapped that sustain pedal with the sustain pedal hooked up to a Novation KS4 and it worked but the KS4 sustain pedal did not work on the E-MU. The owner's manual was at his house so I told him to read it and let me know what it says to do to get sustain. I couldn't wait so I went to E-MU and downloaded the manual. I checked the two jacks and it said the footswitch controls the presets and the pedal jack controls volume, no mention of sustain anywhere. I checked the Index at the end of the manual and "sustain" was not listed.

Are we going insane?

E-MU no longer supports these keyboards that are only 10 years old. I tried to hit the Contact Us button but it asks for a product and the only product they support are just two keyboard controllers with sample sounds so the only option I have is to ask this forum if someone could help me figure this one out.

You define the pedal's function for each preset. It can eg control sustain, but also switch between different instrument sources (like the organ's leslie speeds). You define the pedal's function in the edit/cords section (I think).

I've tried many times but to no avail. I am beginning to thing there could be a connection failure at the pedal input.

That would be a huge coincidence because during the same movement of keyboards to a new location the jack to a sustain pedal on a Novation KS4 came apart inside the pedal input. The tip of the jack became lodged in the input and I could not plug another sustain pedal in because the tip blocked the connection needed to work. I was lucky to use a Philips head screwdriver and gently tap the tip through. Then I removed a few screws on the bottom of the keyboard and shook the tip out. I then tried another sustain pedal and it worked fine.

The good news is the Novation is mine and the E-MU is not.
